The Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus is an interesting chip for demanding mobile users. We took a close look at the details of the Arrow Lake architecture and are quite impressed. This model is manufactured using the modern 3 nm process, which promises high efficiency.

According to the benchmark, the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus achieves a single-thread score of 5,009, placing it surprisingly close to Intel’s desktop-oriented Core Ultra 9 285K. For a mobile processor, that proximity is notable and points to strong per-core performance improvements.

The Arrow Lake refresh scored 5,009 points in the single-core test, the highest for any x86 CPU on the site, and within the margin of error of the desktop Core Ultra 9 285K and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus. It seems to be the first x86 mobile chip to break the 5,000 points barrier as well, since the next-in-line 285HX only managed 4,635 points, making the 290HX Plus 7.5% faster than its predecessor.

Update: Arrow Lake HX Refresh was unveiled in March 2026. The Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus is the new top-of-the-line SKU for this platform, while the Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus and Core Ultra 7 251Hx are the more mainstream options.
